Rebecca Gayheart
Dr. Tammie Pearce, BS DVM

Meet the Lead Instructor

Dr. Pearce is a veterinarian instructor for Veterinary Assistant training for the U.S. Career Institute. Dr. Pearce graduated from Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine and Biological Sciences with a Doctorate in Veterinary medicine. Previously, she graduated from the University of Arizona, Tucson, with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Health Sciences. While in veterinary school, Dr. Pearce did an extensive internship at Kaytee in Wisconsin, working with their staff of avian care and lead veterinarian at their avian research facility. Dr. Pearce's passion for animal care has been a lifelong journey. She has been an avid equine and bird enthusiast since her early years, starting her riding journey in grade school and even breeding show budgerigars. This deep-rooted passion has translated into a broad range of experiences as a practicing veterinarian and an advisor on diagnostics and therapeutics for small-animal and large-animal veterinarians. As a veterinarian in Denver, Colorado, Dr. Pearce not only provided care for exotic and small animals but also took on a leadership role in the industry. She led a team of veterinarians and veterinary technicians, consulting on small animal allergy, dermatology, clinical pathology, and equine flu outbreaks for the Heska Diagnostic Laboratory in Loveland, Colorado. Her expertise extended nationwide, as she advised equine veterinarians on using Heska's Flu Avert I.N. (Intra-Nasal) vaccine, feline vaccines, and Heska laboratory results. After moving back to southern Arizona, Dr. Pearce worked on curriculum development and training for veterinary technicians in exotic, small, and large animal handling, anatomy, care, and radiograph techniques at Pima Medical Institute in Tucson, Arizona. While at Pima Medical Institute, she also helped develop protocols for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. Education is vital for well-rounded veterinary assistants and veterinary technicians. Dr. Pearc feels there is no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid answers. Dr. Pearce has worked with breeding, showing, and keeping multiple species of birds, fish, rabbits, reptiles, other exotics, dogs, and cats. She is a current member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Association of Avian Veterinarians, Theriogenology Foundation, American Association of Fish Veterinarians, and the American Association of Equine Practitioners. In her spare time, Dr. Pearce enjoys photographing animals and wild birds and hiking with her Kerry Blue Terrier.
