Course Outline

U.S. Career Institute’s online Electrician trade school will teach you everything you need to know to be ready to work as an Electrician’s Apprentice. Students will learn the basics of electronics, building skills that will prepare them to service, troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment while maintaining the highest safety standards. From customer service skills to hands-on virtual labs, students will learn what’s needed to obtain a position as an Electrician’s Apprentice. Our online Electrician classes prepares graduates to apply basic customer service principles, understand and apply important safety standards, calculate values in resistive circuits, prepare conduits, install raceway systems, interpret construction blueprints and install various residential wiring devices.

Ryan Dreiling is a Master Electrician and an Electrician instructor at U.S. Career Institute. He graduated from Colorado State University Global with a Bachelor's Degree in Project Management. He also holds an Associates Degree in Electrical Trades from Red Rocks Community College and is a graduate of Independent Electrical Contractors. Ryan believes that career training is a building block for career success, having worked in the Construction industry for over 24 years in various roles, including electrician foreman, supervisor, inspector, and quality control. He has seen firsthand how career training can help individuals build a career they love. In addition to being an instructor for U.S. Career Institute, he is currently employed with the Colorado Department of Military and Veterans Affairs as an electrical supervisor. His main role as an electrical supervisor is to maintain critical infrastructure in support of the Colorado Air National Guard. Ryan is originally from Denver, CO and enjoys spending time with his family hiking, backpacking and fly fishing.

  • Typically a High School diploma or equivalent is required, formal training through an accredited institution can also be helpful. After completing a recognized program, most electricians learn their trade in a 4 or 5 year apprenticeship program. Each year, apprentices get 1000’s of hours of paid training and technical instruction. This program is intended to give you foundational electrician knowledge to help you when you find your apprenticeship position.

USCI will not find an apprenticeship for you, it is your responsibility to look for this opportunity upon completing our program. USCI does offer graduate support through our Career Coach program which is designed to give you the tools you need to market yourself including cover letter, resume, interview skills and job search techniques.

Most states require apprenticeship hours and experience before being licensed. This course serves as the first step in your path to becoming an electrician by teaching you the foundational electrician knowledge that will help you when you find your Electrician Apprenticeship position.

The main focus for Electricians is to install, repair and maintain electrical power, lighting, communications and control systems in businesses, homes and factories.

Typically a High School diploma or equivalent is required. Formal training through an accredited institution can also be helpful when seeking employment.
