New Training for a Growing Healthcare Field

U.S. CAREER INSTITUTE LAUNCHES DENTAL ASSISTANT COURSE

Fort Collins, ColoradoMAY 28, 2009 – U.S. Career Institute (USCI) announced the rollout of its new Dental Assistant course. The course expands USCI’s list of career-specific distance learning programs to 21. All USCI courses are accredited through the nationally recognized Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) in Washington, DC.

The Baby Boomer age-group’s increased dental care needs and the general population’s heightened interest in preventive gum and tooth care are two factors contributing to the growing number of dentist visits nationwide. To reduce the time that they and their hygienists spend on routine tasks, dentists are hiring a record number of dental assistants to work in the front office, in the lab and at chairside.

“Even in our currently challenged economy, pockets of job growth exist,” says Ann Rohr, president of USCI. “Dental assisting is such a pocket. Government projections are for dental assisting to be one of the fastest growing fields in the next few years. Our new course allows students to train for an entry-level dental assisting job in a thorough and cost effective way.”

USCI’s 740 clock-hour course introduces the student to dental science (oral anatomy and disease). It also includes lessons that explain the wide range of duties that may be assigned to a dental assistant, such as scheduling, client reception, insurance billing, recordkeeping, supplies ordering, formulation of dental resins and cements, sterilization of dental tools, x-ray preparation and clinical assistance during client visits. In addition to written materials, five Virtual Labs – audiovisual CDs that allow a student to observe correct procedures for standard dental assistant tasks – are included. Students can complete the course in as little as four months, saving money by training at home in their own time. Course graduates with current CPR certification may sit for the nationally recognized Registered Dental Assistant exam. Earning the RDA designation can enhance the professional image presented during an employment search.

“Dental assisting is perfect for individuals seeking a secure job in an essential healthcare office,” says USCI president Rohr. “The jobs are out there. We’re happy that USCI is now offering a course that can help people become strong candidates for them.”

U.S. Career Institute is one of three schools whose parent company is Weston Distance Learning, Inc. (Fort Collins, Colorado). The other two Weston schools are At-Home Professions and McKinley College. The schools enroll students throughout the country. Weston courses allow students to train at home, in their own time, for employment in fields shown to offer reliable job prospects and earning potential. Weston’s state approval is issued by the Colorado Department of Education’s Division of Private Occupational Schools.
