Amanda’s Success Story

How I Juggled Two Kids and My Studies

Amanda earned her Medical Assistant Certificate in May of 2011. Before she became a student, she worked full-time at U.S. Career Institute as a Student Services Representative.

“It was great working with the students here,” Amanda said, “but I knew in the back of my mind that when my kids started school, I wanted to go back to school to do something in the medical industry.” After some consideration, she chose U.S. Career Institute’s Medical Assistant program to help her achieve her dreams.

It wasn’t easy to juggle two children and school, but Amanda took strength from all of the other students who studied around their jobs and family commitments. And the correspondence course format fit her life perfectly. “I loved the convenience of being at home. And I liked that the course was self-paced. When you have kids and a busy, hectic schedule, you aren’t forced to complete it in a certain time-frame.”

Amanda squeezed her study time in during her kids’ naps and after bed-time. “I balanced everything because I was motivated to succeed.” With that motivation, Amanda expanded her medical knowledge throughout her course and earned top grades.

U.S. Career Institute’s Medical Assistant program introduced Amanda to the medical industry she will soon be part of. “I knew the course would help me further my education. And I liked that it got to the point. Everything I learned was about the medical field.” The lessons directly applied to her future career. She practiced real job skills she will use with patients.

She said that she even became a better-prepared mom through the course. “I learned first-aid and in-depth information about the human body. There’s a lot to learn in regard to taking care of a family.” Now, Amanda is prepared for any emergency, at home or at work.

Someday, Amanda wants to be a nurse. With her Medical Assistant Certificate, she is one step closer to her goal. “When my kids go to school next year, I plan to start working. My Medical Assistant program will help me get my foot in the door and work toward nursing.”
